COVID 19 – Corona Virus Update

Posted on March 17th, 2020

Any patients feeling unwell with a new persistent cough, difficulty in breathing or a temperature of 37.8 or above should now stay at home and self-isolate in accordance with the latest recommendations, which can be found on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY Please use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service or call NHS 111.

If your condition worsens and you cannot continue to self-care then you must contact 111 either online or by phone.  Only ring 999 in an emergency.

The majority of appointments will now be offered as telephone consultations and if booking one of these, please ensure we have your correct contact details.

Please do not ask for a sick note for self-isolation you can self-certify for 7 days.

Please only attend if you are collecting medication and are symptom free or if you have an agreed appointment and have been screened that day by a member of the team.  WALK IN PATIENTS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please follow these instructions to help keep our practice team and patients symptom free.

The advice for anyone in any setting is to follow these main guidelines.

  1. Wash your hands more often than usual, for 20 seconds using soap and hot water, particularly after coughing, sneezing and blowing your nose, or after being in public areas where other people are doing so. Use hand sanitiser if that is all you have access to.
  2. To reduce the spread of germs when you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your sleeve (not your hands) if you don’t have a tissue, and dispose of the tissue in a bin immediately. Then wash your hands or use a hand sanitising gel.
  3. Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces using your regular cleaning products to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people.

At the current time and based on our understanding of what is known of COVID-19 and other similar respiratory viruses, it is likely that older people and those with chronic medical conditions may be vulnerable to severe disease. As more information emerges, recommendations may change.
